Browning BAR Type 1 High-Power Sporting Rifle 30-06, Mfg. 1968

Description
This Pre-Owned Browning BAR Type 1 High-Power Sporting Rifle in 30-06 dates to 1968, placing it within the first production years of Browning's gas-operated sporting autoloader. Designed by Bruce Browning and built in Belgium at the FN factory, the Type 1 brought semi-automatic handling to the big game field at a time when most hunters were running bolt guns. Blued steel and checkered walnut give it the proportions and weight of a traditional sporting rifle rather than anything tactical in nature.
The rifle comes wearing a Weaver K3 scope and a leather sling, a period-appropriate setup for whitetail and elk country. A rifle like this suits the hunter who wants fast follow-up shots from a classic Belgian-made platform, or the collector tracking early Type 1 production.
Browning BAR Type 1 Features
- Gas-operated action with a rotating bolt that cycles full-power 30-06 loads while softening felt recoil compared to a bolt gun of similar weight
- Detachable box magazine with a hinged floorplate, allowing the rifle to be loaded and unloaded without cycling rounds through the chamber
- Checkered walnut pistol-grip stock and forearm that give the rifle traditional sporting lines and a secure hold in cold weather
- Hooded ramp front sight paired with a folding leaf rear, the pre-1980 arrangement that keeps iron sights usable and out of the way under glass
- Weaver K3 scope already mounted, a fixed 3x optic well matched to typical woods and field ranges
- Belgian FN manufacture from 1968, representing early Type 1 production of the BAR sporting rifle line
