Browning BAR is a first-generation semi-automatic sporting rifle introduced in the late 1960s and built around a gas-operated action intended for hunting and field use. This Pre-Owned example was manufactured in 1968, placing it among the early Belgian-production rifles made by Fabrique Nationale. The design was developed under Bruce Browning and combined traditional sporting-rifle styling with a self-loading action capable of handling full-power centerfire cartridges. Early examples are particularly notable for their FN manufacture, machined components, and classic walnut-stocked configuration.
The rifle uses a gas-operated system with a rotating bolt that locks securely into the receiver extension, providing reliable cycling while maintaining the accuracy and handling expected from a sporting rifle. These first-generation Belgian BARs were assembled with substantial steel components and finely fitted wood furniture, giving them a distinctly different character from later production variants. The detachable box magazine allows convenient loading and unloading while supporting modern hunting ammunition.
