Smith & Wesson Model 34-1 Bobbed Hammer Features
Smith & Wesson Model 34-1 Bobbed Hammer is a Pre-Owned J-Frame revolver derived from Smith & Wesson’s classic Kit Gun series and configured with a modified, spur-less hammer for reduced snagging during carry. The 34-1 engineering variation marked the transition of the Kit Gun from the earlier I-Frame to the more standardized J-Frame platform. Its all-steel construction, compact proportions, and adjustable sights make it well suited to recreational shooting, field carry, and collection use. The bobbed hammer on this example has been altered by removing the traditional hammer spur and smoothing the profile.
The Model 34-1 uses a carbon-steel frame and cylinder, giving the revolver a solid feel while retaining the compact dimensions associated with Smith & Wesson’s small-frame designs. Unlike many fixed-sight pocket revolvers, the Kit Gun configuration uses an adjustable micrometer-style rear sight paired with a ramped front sight, allowing the sight picture to be tuned for more precise shooting. The swing-out cylinder maintains Smith & Wesson’s familiar revolver loading system, while the shortened hammer profile reduces the likelihood of catching on clothing or gear during presentation. Because the hammer spur has been removed, the modification also changes the traditional manual-cocking interface from the original factory configuration. The blued steel finish and compact J-Frame architecture preserve the classic appearance and handling characteristics associated with the Model 34 series.
