J.Stevens 520 Features
J.Stevens 520 is a hammerless pump-action shotgun designed by John Moses Browning and introduced by J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company in the early twentieth century. Its distinctive receiver profile, takedown construction, and early pump-action operating system make the Model 520 notably different from modern sporting shotguns. The design uses a tubular magazine beneath the barrel and a manually operated slide to cycle the action. Today, the Model 520 is particularly interesting to collectors and enthusiasts of early American repeating shotguns.
One of the Model 520’s most recognizable characteristics is its angular, double-hump receiver profile, a visual feature that separates it from later streamlined pump-action designs. The shotgun also incorporates a takedown system that allows the barrel and magazine assembly to separate from the receiver for transportation, storage, and maintenance. Early examples lack the trigger disconnector found in most modern pump-action shotguns, allowing the action to fire as the bolt closes when the trigger remains depressed during cycling.
