Description
This Pre-Owned Smith & Wesson Model 459 is a 9mm double-action/single-action semi-automatic pistol from the company's second-generation autoloader line, introduced in 1981 as a refined development of the Model 59. Smith & Wesson built it around a double-column magazine and an aluminum alloy frame, which gave police departments a high-capacity 9mm sidearm without the weight of an all-steel service pistol. The design was submitted to the US XM9 pistol trials and served with law enforcement agencies, the FBI among them.
Shooters drawn to duty-era metal-framed pistols will recognize the layout right away: slide-mounted safety, exposed hammer, and a first-shot double-action pull that transitions to single action for follow-up shots. This example is Pre-Owned and comes with two magazines and the original box.
Smith & Wesson Model 459 Features
- Aluminum alloy frame keeps carry weight down while the double-column magazine well retains full-size 9mm capacity
- Carbon steel slide handles the recoil-operated cycle and carries the pistol's sighting plane
- Double-action/single-action trigger allows a longer first-shot pull followed by a shorter single-action press for the rest of the string
- Slide-mounted manual safety places the lever within reach of the firing hand thumb
- Exposed hammer lets the shooter verify hammer position by sight and feel
- Two magazines and the original box are included with this example
