Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Work Champion 16GA 1rd, Single Shot

Description
This Pre-Owned Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Work Champion is a 16 gauge break-open single shot shotgun built on the pattern Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works of Fitchburg, Massachusetts turned out from the early 1900s into the 1970s. Sold through hardware stores and mail-order catalogs for decades, the Champion was the plain, durable field gun that hung behind the kitchen door, meant for small game, birds, and pest control rather than the trap line. The 30 inch barrel gives it the long sighting plane and smooth swing that older field guns were known for.
Operation is about as simple as a shotgun gets: thumb the top lever, drop a shell in, close it, and cock the exposed hammer when you are ready to fire. This one comes as the firearm only, with no box or accessories. Markings and choke should be confirmed by inspection, as finish and choke designation vary across the Champion's long production run.
Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Work Champion Features
- Break-open action with a top lever release, letting the shooter load, unload, and verify an empty chamber at a glance
- Exposed hammer with Iver Johnson's rebounding design, which returns the hammer off the firing pin after the shot
- Single shot layout that keeps the gun light in the hands and simple to maintain with minimal moving parts
- Long 30 inch barrel that smooths out the swing on crossing birds and extends the sighting plane
- Wood stock and forend in the traditional field pattern, straightforward to handle in cold weather or heavy gloves
- 16 gauge chambering, a classic upland pairing that splits the difference between 12 and 20 gauge recoil and payload
