Winchester Model 72A .22L 15rd, Tube Fed
1 in stock
Description
This Pre-Owned Winchester Model 72A is a tube-fed bolt-action rimfire rifle, the later refinement of the Model 72 that Winchester introduced in 1938 as its first tube-fed bolt gun. The design borrows heavily from the box-fed Model 69, trading the detachable magazine for a tubular magazine under the barrel that feeds .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle interchangeably. Rifles like this one filled the role of farm gun, small game rifle, and backyard practice piece for decades, and the long 25-inch barrel makes it a steady, easy-shooting plinker.
The 72A is identified by its backswept bolt handle and nickel-plated trigger, trigger guard, and bolt, set against a blued barreled action and walnut stock. This example is a used rifle in its original tube-fed configuration. Production of the Model 72 and 72A ran to roughly 161,400 rifles before it was discontinued in 1959, which puts any surviving example squarely in collectible rimfire territory while leaving it perfectly usable at the range.
Winchester Model 72A Features
- Tubular magazine mounted beneath the barrel holds a long string of rimfire ammunition without a detachable magazine to lose or damage
- Chambered to feed .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle, so the rifle adapts to whatever rimfire ammunition is on hand
- Backswept bolt handle sits closer to the shooting hand for faster, less awkward cycling between shots
- Nickel-plated trigger, trigger guard, and bolt give the 72A its distinctive look and visually separate it from the earlier Model 72
- Walnut stock and blued steel keep the balance and feel of a traditional American rimfire rifle
- Two-position safety at the rear right of the action falls under the thumb for straightforward operation
